Let the Journey Begin!! (#J2FA50)

Updated: Apr 11, 2021

Today is March 18, 2021 and in 50 Days I will be hitting a milestone age. That’s right! The big 5-0!! Half of a Century! In 50 days I will officially be a Quinquagenarian! I have to admit, I hadn't heard that term before now, lol. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd find myself out of shape and working so hard to reclaim my health, but here I am. My weight went from being consistent weight (18 -30yo), to birthing babies weight (31 – 39yo), to fluctuating with the stresses of life weight (40 – 48yrs), to downright outta’ control weight in 2020 (49yo). During the 2020 quarantine resulting from the coronavirus pandemic, I literally gained the “COVID-19”. 19-lbs in 8 months?!? Are you freaking kidding me?!?

I was social distancing, wearing a mask, walking 3-4 miles, 3-4 days a week, biking here and there, but my weight wasn't going down; instead it was increasing. It didn’t make any sense to me! I didn't think that I was consuming any more food than usual. I've worked from home full-time since 2015, so being here all day everyday with access to food and snacks wasn't new to me. My family had cut back on eating out as often as we were used to, because of COVID. I mean we used to grab fast food 2 -3 days a week and treat ourselves to a nice sit down meal as a family almost every weekend. But as with the majority of the world, because our schedule came to a screeching halt, our days and weekends weren't as hectic as we had known them to be for the past 13 years with sports practices, events, games and meets. I was really enjoying the downtime and home cooked meals that we were able to enjoy all together every single day. I thought making sure I was at least walking would help me to maintain the weight, even though not ideal, I wanted to keep it under control. So then I thought, okay maybe I have to step-up my activity. Walking obviously wasn't enough. So in November 2020, I began doing Shaun T’s Insanity with my husband twice a week. It was my plan to walk Monday, Wednesday and Friday/Saturday and do Insanity on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But then only three (3) doggone sessions in, even while modifying the movements, the arthritis in my knee flared up, it filled with fluid, became stiff and then the pain kicked in. I thought I was going to have to get my knee drained and a cortisone shot, yet again. This was starting to be a pattern every time I tried to workout. I could NOT believe it! My knees were hurting because I needed to lose weight, but when I tried to work-out to lose the weight, my knees would hurt worse! I was broke down!! Talk about a conundrum!! I was so frustrated. I didn't know what else I could do. Those commercials for Sono Bello (laser liposuction surgery) were starting to look really good, but I've always had a fear of any type of surgery ( i.e. bleeding out on the table). So instead of trying to figure it out on my own, I decided to pray about it. I specifically prayed for a way to lose the weight WITHOUT working out and I kid you not, literally the next day my prayers were answered! While scrolling through social media, I saw a post from a close family friend and my life has forever been changed.

In three and a half (3.5) months (12/1/20 – 3/14/21) I've lost 30lbs without working out AT ALL. How you ask? By following an awesome Optimal Health & Wellness program. And now over the next 50 Days, I NEED YOUR SUPPORT!! I would love for you all to be my accountability partners, my support system, my cheerleaders on my Journey to Fit and 50 - #J2FA50! I'm on a mission to reach my goal weight by my 50th Birthday (May 6th)!

Losing 50lbs will DEFINITELY get my BMI out of the obese weight category - that's right! Obese!! Not judging or anything, but I always thought someone was considered "obese" if they were 300+lbs. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be obese. Not "Dancing Donnese" as many call me, lol. My goal is to lose 10 - 20 additional pounds to ensure that I'm finally back in the Normal BMI category for my height. Y'all know I'm vertically challenged, lol! It is my plan to start walking again, when the weather finally breaks, to make sure I don't plateau and start doing sit-ups to work on getting my core tight and right.

Hubby and the boys definitely did it big VIRTUALLY for me last year for my 49th birthday. So for my 50th BIRTHDAY, I'm asking for you all to PLEASE hold me accountable and route me on!! Subscribe to my blog and follow me on this journey. I'm going to take you back to the beginning. Back when weight wasn't an issue for me, when my struggles first began, yo-yo diets and programs over the years and circle back to "my current situation". Please leave comments, send some motivation, ask questions, check on both my mental state and my progress. There will even be some Before, During & After photos along my Journey to Fit and 50 #J2FA50 - physically fit, mentally fit and financially fit!

Please Like, Follow, Subscribe and share my journey with others. Until Next Week!
